Author Kamichi Jackson Seeks Representation For Urban Romantic Comedy Script

08/29/2005

(ContentDesk) August 29, 2005 -- Author Kamichi Jackson is knocking on Hollywood's door with her new urban romantic comedy "On the Dotted Line". But who knew even getting an agent would be such a difficult process? Ever determined, though, this talented wordsmith refuses to give up.Getting her script sold would not be an easy road to travel. Author/aspiring screenwriter Kamichi Jackson knew that from the moment she decided to even pen her first screenplay. But who knew getting an agent to represent her work would be so difficult? Jackson comments, "Every now and then, a production company I contact directly will actually answer my query, and the first thing they ask me is if I have an agent. I don't.

And the conversation pretty much ends right there. So I've tried to get an agent. That hasn't gone well at all. It's not even that they're reading my work and coming back and saying its bad. I'm not even getting that far! So my Manager and I decided to try and raise visibility for my projects and see if anyone in the industry responds." The first call Jackson has put out is for representation for her completed script, On the Dotted Line, written with veteran actors Nia Long and Bill Bellamy in mind for the lead roles as former lovers who are now music executives from competing record labels.

She continues, "It's a fun story! I penned my leading lady character, Lenex Lee, completely with Nia Long in mind because I'm a fan of hers and I love to see her in roles that allow her the lines and screen time worthy of her talent. Lenex Lee is intelligent, witty, and stylish. That's Nia. The Derek Peyton character has Bill Bellamy written all over him! The big I'll-bet-I-can-charm-my-way-out-of-this smile; maybe that's not him in real life, but thats how I see him playing this character!" "Risha Powell is the name of the character that plays a major role as the singer/songwriter in this story. She's a composite of several of my favorite artists: India.arie, Jill Scott, Angie Stone, Lauryn Hill.

She's earthy, soulful, with a natural, attainable beauty audiences can relate to. And if I were to cast the role of Melinda, Derek Payton's witty executive assistant, I would call on either Sherri Shepard or Natalie Desselle-Reid." "They're both hilarious and it would be fun to watch either of them in the role. And let's not forget the soundtrack! My fantasy is that someone like Jermaine Dupri would see this as an opportunity to not only showcase Virgin and So So Def artists, but also some of the many other artists he's blown up with his production skills. We're talking multi-platinum easily." Another project in the works is a screenplay (Cynda) for burgeoning actress Keke Palmer, who Jackson contacted via the youngster's website message board. "I saw her in The Wool Cap and was immediately impressed by her natural acting ability.

I posted a message at her site and her mother emailed me and told me they'd be interested in reading the script I'm writing for her when I'm finished. If they like it, I'm hoping they'll take it to Ralph Farquhar, who I hope will then take it to Disney Channel." Also on Jackson's To Do list is a screenplay version of her upcoming novel "The Brownstone", a family drama set in present-day Harlem. "The writing process for the novel version of The Brownstone is already very visual. I literally close my eyes and imagine each scene being played out on the big screen with actors like Courtney B. Vance, Kimberly Elise, Charles S.

Dutton, Gabrielle Union, Erika Alexander, Regina King, Nia Long and others in mind," she says. "Then I just start typing, sometimes eyes still closed. In my head, it's already a movie - so I figured I might as well pen the screenplay too." Rounding out Jackson's scriptwriting files are story ideas and treatments for some made-for-TV movies, a reality TV show she pitched to TV One, as well as episodes of some of her favorite shows, including Half & Half and Eve. "The goal is to be a full-time writer of books, scripts, plays and music," says Jackson, who is also the author of a young reader book entitled You're Too Much, Reggie Brown (released in December 2000; additional titles for the series are planned for 2006 release). "Hopefully, one day very soon, I'll get an agent who will work with me to make the dream become a reality." Press Contact:Teresa D.
